Problems Solved, Lessons Learned, Themes Changed

Today I quickly discovered the MySQL problem I was having after updating to WordPress version 2.3.1 – an outdated plug-in that was calling obsolete tables from the database. First time I’ve had a problem with a plug-in, I usually never deactivate them when updating WordPress.

For the record, it was “Google Sitemaps v2.7.1.” I’m sure there’s already a fix for it.

But while I’m at it, I’m going to work on theming some more today.

Stay classy, San Diego.

Site Updates

I spent pretty much all day today working on the site. Upgrading to the latest version of WordPress, getting it working correctly, adding plugins, and a total redesign. Just like the old days.

And if that wasn’t enough, I’ve spent the last hour or so retroactively adding tags to my oldest posts. And now I’m forced to stop because my left wrist is KILLING me. Argh.

Anyways, hope the work is appreciated, and any comments are welcomed.

I’d also really like to exchange links with any interested parties. Preferably those with similar sites (content, traffic, the whole shebang). I noticed today that a lot of my old ‘link pals’ have moved on or died off. Their sites, not themselves.

Site Liner Notes

First off, I updated the site design once again. I stuck a white male consumer whom I know a bird in the header, and the site is now wider and more readable / navigable. I’m using the eminently tweakable K2 theme.

I’m also going to be posting a variety of odd posts in the new “WRTG 41500″ category, which are for a writing seminar I’m taking about blogging, online media, and how it affects writing. All of that jazz.

And now, with that said, I’m going to go wash my car. Brr.

It’s Dark Out Here

So, another site redesign. At the beginning, I meant to make the site more colorful. It was just a drab variety of grays before. Unintentionally, my end result has absolutely no color at all. But it’s still a nice change, and I might stick with it for awhile.

I hate spending my Friday nights working on a website. Lame.

On the plus side, this theme is actually 100% copyright-infringemement free! Yay.

More, Better, Prettier

I need to update the blog more often. I must make better posts, with more politics. I need to change the design to something prettier, more colorful, more “hip”.

First week of classes through, and it’s looking pretty good. I’m taking twelve credits: three writing classes and macroeconomics. I only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which really makes everything manageable. Because the workload is going to be pretty hefty. A lot of writing, to be expected.

I did not place into German 202. I didn’t even make it into 201. After two semesters of 102, I still can not place out of it into a higher class. Ultimately this doesn’t matter, since next fall I can take 201 (which is only offered in the fall – I was trying to skip it, take 202 this spring semester, and be done with that “awful German language”). But it’s damn exasperating nonetheless. The politics major requires a foreign language taken up to the intermediate level. I’m reminded of when one of my advisors said that the only way around this, was if I had some sort of learning disability which precluded doing this.

I wish. I’m just damn lazy, and – in languages – you can’t just sail through. Or at least I can’t. Maybe I should bone up on the symptoms of a disability.

No. That’d be too much work.

I’m going to work on the design of the site, since it’s pretty drab right now. And I really need to get back into the swing of writing politics. I did not intend this to be a personal blog. I hate personal blogs.

Oh, Also Upgrading

WordPress 2.0 has been out for a few days, and I’ve decided to upgrade to it, and also clear all of the junk from my webspace while I’m at it. This will probably result in a lot of dead links to pictures in old posts, but I should have thought of that before scattering stuff throughout multiple directories, huh?

The changes of WP2.0 are mostly behind the scenes, so I’ve heard, but the blog’s theme will be changed to the standard while I work on a new one. So you’ll notice a difference, albeit only aesthetic.

EDIT: New theme is up, and continuing to be tweaked. Comments welcomed.
