Problems Solved, Lessons Learned, Themes Changed

Today I quickly discovered the MySQL problem I was having after updating to WordPress version 2.3.1 – an outdated plug-in that was calling obsolete tables from the database. First time I’ve had a problem with a plug-in, I usually never deactivate them when updating WordPress.

For the record, it was “Google Sitemaps v2.7.1.” I’m sure there’s already a fix for it.

But while I’m at it, I’m going to work on theming some more today.

Stay classy, San Diego.

I Need A Change.

To this blog, that is. I made this nice, green good-weather theme just a month or so before it become cold and dreary out. I need to match the theme to the current conditions in Ithaca. Because it’s winter, damnit.

I could go back and replicate the shot in the header, but it’s a bit of a hike and doing it in the cold and snow would suck. I’ll have to do it sometime though.

Last night I stayed up late, drank six or more cups of tea – decaf, but featuring ingredients to “cure all my ails” – smoked some salvia, and worked on one of my articles. I began to feel better. I’ve been popping some OTC nasal congestion meds. My lousy condition probably stems from the sudden change in weather. It was so nice just last week!

Expect more updates sometime in the future.

Oh, Also Upgrading

WordPress 2.0 has been out for a few days, and I’ve decided to upgrade to it, and also clear all of the junk from my webspace while I’m at it. This will probably result in a lot of dead links to pictures in old posts, but I should have thought of that before scattering stuff throughout multiple directories, huh?

The changes of WP2.0 are mostly behind the scenes, so I’ve heard, but the blog’s theme will be changed to the standard while I work on a new one. So you’ll notice a difference, albeit only aesthetic.

EDIT: New theme is up, and continuing to be tweaked. Comments welcomed.

WMC: Wide-Azz Version

Just a quick update / notice. Today I stretched the site out. It will just about take up the entire screen if you’re running a 800×600 screen resolution. Previously, I was trying to keep the site nice and slim in case anyone was running 640×480. But anyone using that resolution today is just pitiful.

I’m also probably going to spruce up the header image again, change a few things. Nothing huge, just some tweaking.

I’ll be making sure that none of the changes I made today broke the site in Internet Explorer in a day or so, but if you notice anything, leave me a note!

Site Redesign #42

Well, here she is. Several lazy days of coding. Alright, I’ll admit. It’s basically just a combination of Kubrick and Equix. The design of Kubrick, the colors of Equix, hammered into a nice seamless inbetween.

Yes, I went back to one-column. They just look a lot more neater, and a bit less common. The old “header, wide column, short column, footer” formula is getting tired. Some people step up to three or four columns, but that’s just.. overkill.

Expect a few tweaks, and be sure to point out any irregularities with the new design. I don’t have IE on the laptop, so I’m flying blind. Have tested with Safari and Firefox. Only two browsers anyone should be using anyway, but.. I digress.

PimpZilla

PimpZilla

Pimpzilla is a theme for the browser Firefox. It’s also probably the most tacky & overdone piece of GUI design out there, aimed solely for true internet-connaisseurs. If you are into fur and lots of bling, this is the theme for you.
