First off, I updated the site design once again. I stuck a white male consumer whom I know a bird in the header, and the site is now wider and more readable / navigable. I’m using the eminently tweakable K2 theme.
I’m also going to be posting a variety of odd posts in the new “WRTG 41500″ category, which are for a writing seminar I’m taking about blogging, online media, and how it affects writing. All of that jazz.
And now, with that said, I’m going to go wash my car. Brr.

And it is?
When the author looks through the archives, and finds a lot of dumb, inane chatter that is truly embarrassing. Added another post category today, and was going back through adding old posts to it. That first year was really crappy.
I’m also in the process of tagging every single post. I got a third of a way through the other day. Haven’t had the time or inclination to continue, but I’ll get around to it someday.
In other news, I went home over the weekend. Have a decent amount of classwork this week. Just going through life.
Oh, yes. And I’ll be taking classes at a local community college over the summer, because I’m behind with a few general requirements. Double-majoring and then going abroad will do that to a person.
Sorry about the current theme here. I’m working on a design, but starting from scratch (or close to it – the old WP default skin) is a long, painful road to travel.

WordPress 2.0 has been out for a few days, and I’ve decided to upgrade to it, and also clear all of the junk from my webspace while I’m at it. This will probably result in a lot of dead links to pictures in old posts, but I should have thought of that before scattering stuff throughout multiple directories, huh?
The changes of WP2.0 are mostly behind the scenes, so I’ve heard, but the blog’s theme will be changed to the standard while I work on a new one. So you’ll notice a difference, albeit only aesthetic.
EDIT: New theme is up, and continuing to be tweaked. Comments welcomed.

Well, exactly a week ago, we zipped down to Ithaca to check out an apartment. At this point, I didn’t really care, and it seemed like I could stand it for six months, so we took it. Three hundred dollars a month gets me a (really) large bedroom in a house, which I’ll be sharing with two people – “recent grads” (who we weren’t able to meet, but are probably cool heads). This includes all utilities, a washing machine, and roadrunner high-speed internet. Bedroom is also partially furnished, although I have to put up with some stuff in the corner of the room, which belongs to the women who is subleting it (sort of odd, but who cares).
I’m definitely chuffed. This is by far one of the cheapest deals I’ve found. The house was EH, nothing too great. Small place, but there’s only three of us. Upstairs are the three bedrooms, downstairs there is a dining room, living room, and kitchen (whole open floor plan thing going on). Porch on the front, yard in the back. On a small street, downtown, probably ten minutes walk from the Commons or what have you.
I’ve been thinking about taking the bus for the commute to classes this semester. Since I only have class two days a week, I could stand it, and it might be more economical than buying a campus parking permit (which would be the full price for the full year, even though I’d only use it for one semester). Maybe I just got use to the excellent public transportation in Freiburg which I took every day to get anywhere. But man, I hate the TCAT (Ithaca’s lousy bus system). When we were in Ithaca, seeing those busses was appalling. They looked ancient, especially compared to the marvels in Germany… I mean the Frankfurt Airport’s shuttles are nicer. Anyways.
Mainly just felt compelled to post after a long absence. I’m still around, and still active online even. Just haven’t been in a blogging sort of mood lately. It’s still not too late to shutter this personal domain and go back to being hosted by a friend. Then again, it costs next to nothing to keep this thing running, so I’ll most likely just stay put.
And it’s 2006. Feels just like 2005.

Just a quick update / notice. Today I stretched the site out. It will just about take up the entire screen if you’re running a 800×600 screen resolution. Previously, I was trying to keep the site nice and slim in case anyone was running 640×480. But anyone using that resolution today is just pitiful.
I’m also probably going to spruce up the header image again, change a few things. Nothing huge, just some tweaking.
I’ll be making sure that none of the changes I made today broke the site in Internet Explorer in a day or so, but if you notice anything, leave me a note!

Today I woke up — it was still dark because I had the blinds drawn, and so I expected it to be really late. Turns out it was only ten thirty in the morning. After lounging for a bit longer, I heard rain, so I got up and pulled up the blinds. Fairly heavy downpour. I actually like rain, so it was a nice way to start off the day. However, the rain quickly stopped, the sun brightened, and it was very nice out. I wore shorts, simply because I could.
Today I spent a lot of time uploading the pictures from my digital camera to Flickr. Most of these pictures were from this summer — and most of them were from my trip to Chicago for Lollapalooza. Be sure to check them out, either by visiting my flickr page, or the photos page on this site.
I discovered one minor annoyance with the plug-in that I’m using to have a photo page on here — it sorts everything by the date that it was taken, and not the date it was uploaded. Which is annoying if you’re uploading a bunch of old photos. Regardless.
I checked the site statistics today also, and they are continuing to progress nicely. I spend absolutely no time or money advertising the site, yet traffic continues to rise. To date, the site has had 4141 unique visits in October. This is compared to September, when it had 3788. The total number of hits for October has been 13750, down substantially from an April high of 64867. I chalk most of this up to taking away the bulletin boards, which inflated the total amount of pages loaded.
I’m content for a personal blog. The only thing that irritates me, is that I’m only using a fraction of what I’m paying for, bandwidth wise. I’m thinking of changing hosts in January. Unless they release an even cheaper, lower-frills plan. It’s possible.

Two quick notes. First off, I fixed the annoying glitch to the site in Internet Explorer, which would cut off the text on both sides of it. It was an odd bug with the CSS, unexplainable. Had to rework how blockquotes are shown. Stupid IE, none of you should be using it, you know.
Secondly, wanted to mention that I did indeed buy plane tickets to Amsterdam – flying there December 8th, coming back on the 12th. Should be a good, last hurrah before finals week, and flying back to the states. I leave Europe for good on December 16th.
Just got back from a little social that the professor and tutor from one of my classes held for the class. Free sandwiches and beer. I’m not complaining. Although we had to jump a wall to get out of the locked building. Sort of odd.
Anyways, I promise to write more about my Central / Eastern Europe trip soon. It gets better.
