I’ve uploaded what I could from my weekend at Calabogie Motorsports. As usual, I couldn’t find much time to take a lot of shots, and I also neglected to do any panning or shooting down the main straight. Anyhoo, what’s available is here at Flickr. Sunday, March 2nd, AMEC was holding a race on Cossayuna Lake, which is really local, so I went and spectated. Snapped plenty of nice pictures – check the Flickr set for all 105. I’ve included a few of the better ones below (click to make bigger). They might be racing at Cossayuna again next week, and I was contemplating entering (running in the street legal class), but I don’t have any Blizzaks to throw on the Subaru, and I don’t want to run the MINI. Wheel to wheel racing, on ice? Contact does happen! (“Ice racing??” You’re thinking? Yeah. It’s a great little niche motorsport in areas that have winters cold enough to support a season. The lake has to have at least a foot of ice before it’s relatively safe to race on. Then a course is plowed, and it’s run like any other event. Most ice racing is wheel to wheel, meaning everyone runs at the same time. The dedicated cars have scary looking tires with huge studs, but most clubs have street classes where you run studless Blizzaks. More info can be found at the AMEC website.) A week ago, we drove to New Hampshire to look at an english bulldog that I found online. There were already a lot of applications, but we tried anyways. Didn’t get him. On a lark, we checked out PetSmart last weekend to look at the dogs. (They have “adoption clinics” every Saturday with local SPCA dogs.) There was a handsome black and white little 3-month-old pup. We got him. It’s his one week anniversary today. Figured I’d finally upload the pics! He’s a total mutt. Part basset hound (check the stubby legs, long body, and great sniffer), a little bluetick hound (look at the “tick” markings around his white), and something that gives him a mid-length, black and white coat (some sort of retriever?) For 3 months old, he’s incredibly well-behaved. He sleeps a lot, plays hard, and has a healthy appetite. His name is Baja. It sort of suits him – it was what the SPCA and his old foster family called him, so we kept it. He’s originally from Tennessee, rescued from a kill shelter, driven up to NY just days before we got him. I think he’s the best dog in the world. But then I haven’t met them all so I’ll reserve judgement. Best picture rating site ever. The genius lies in the fact that you’re pitting two kitten pictures against each other, in a mortal struggle to determine which is cuter than the other. Only one will live. They’re also in the process of making a book. Perfect coffee table material for anyone with a soul. |
