NYC, Gobblers, NetFlix

Last weekend I was down in NYC, at a neat venue called Terminal 5 to see Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Got to walk around the city a bit. For only being a few hours away, I should really get down there more often.

On Thanksgiving we made the most of it. I had some Quorn Turkey. They make some good meat products outta fungi.

And today after signing into Netflix to make sure they didn’t ship any more Red Dwarf (80s Brit humor – yes, it was a long shot) I noticed that Netflix had an announcement about streaming to the Playstation 3. I expected that ability eventually, and skipped all streaming features when picking out the new TV last summer. Now, whenever I’m finally able to hook my PS3 up to broadband, that’ll be really neat.

Also intent on adding a game or two to my collection this holiday season. What’s out?

NYC Not On A Budget

Parents picked me up for the weekend and we went down to NYC. Friday night was spent driving around till 3am looking for a room. Ended up spending $200 per night, plus $40 per night for parking. But the hotel was fucking swanky – financial district, could see WTC site from window. Saturday we checked out The Gates, Christo’s 23-mile sculpture criss-crossing Central Park. It was alright, I don’t pretend to ‘get’ or enjoy modern art, but it was a tad entertaining. Walked around a lot of Central Park, ate a lot of good food. Saturday night was spent at the Pussycat Lounge, nearly four hours of laughably bad metal bands.

Sunday we toured around a little more, checked out the Empire State Building, but there was a two hour wait to go up. So we ate and headed out. Oh, forgot to mention the $150 ticket we got for supposedly parking in a bus lane. It’s bullshit, we were clear of the busses. Bah.

I did all the driving, first time I had driven in NYC – before this the largest city I’d driven in was probably Boston. At night you can really fly from light to light. During the day it’s absolutely bumper to bumper – I had an absolute blast. And not that bad driving stick in the city, actually.
