Well, exactly a week ago, we zipped down to Ithaca to check out an apartment. At this point, I didn’t really care, and it seemed like I could stand it for six months, so we took it. Three hundred dollars a month gets me a (really) large bedroom in a house, which I’ll be sharing with two people – “recent grads” (who we weren’t able to meet, but are probably cool heads). This includes all utilities, a washing machine, and roadrunner high-speed internet. Bedroom is also partially furnished, although I have to put up with some stuff in the corner of the room, which belongs to the women who is subleting it (sort of odd, but who cares).
I’m definitely chuffed. This is by far one of the cheapest deals I’ve found. The house was EH, nothing too great. Small place, but there’s only three of us. Upstairs are the three bedrooms, downstairs there is a dining room, living room, and kitchen (whole open floor plan thing going on). Porch on the front, yard in the back. On a small street, downtown, probably ten minutes walk from the Commons or what have you.
I’ve been thinking about taking the bus for the commute to classes this semester. Since I only have class two days a week, I could stand it, and it might be more economical than buying a campus parking permit (which would be the full price for the full year, even though I’d only use it for one semester). Maybe I just got use to the excellent public transportation in Freiburg which I took every day to get anywhere. But man, I hate the TCAT (Ithaca’s lousy bus system). When we were in Ithaca, seeing those busses was appalling. They looked ancient, especially compared to the marvels in Germany… I mean the Frankfurt Airport’s shuttles are nicer. Anyways.
Mainly just felt compelled to post after a long absence. I’m still around, and still active online even. Just haven’t been in a blogging sort of mood lately. It’s still not too late to shutter this personal domain and go back to being hosted by a friend. Then again, it costs next to nothing to keep this thing running, so I’ll most likely just stay put.
And it’s 2006. Feels just like 2005.

Today was a pretty busy day. I skipped my first class, and instead did a fair amount of reading for my second. Went to it, then I came back. Did a bit of stuff, then ate. Third class, then to the library, where I quietly printed about fifty flyers for the speaker we’re bringing to campus — Ali Abunimah (acclaimed Palestinian journalist, co-founder of electronicintifada.net and electroniciraq.net). I flyered a few buildings, then went to the Amnesty International meeting.
We’re finally beginning to do stuff! Next week we’ll be have a series of events focusing on the USA PATRIOT Act, including a movie, speaker and continuous tabling. And now, we are beginning to work on creating a mock refugee camp, as part of a larger week of raising awareness about the situation in Darfur. We’re also in the tentative planning stages of bringing a speaker, a local women who has been to Darfur just recently. We need to find a good video on the subject. And there is also a Darfur photo exhibit downtown that a few people are trying to bring to campus. If this all comes together, it would be amazing. I’m really excited, for the longest time I was disheartened by the group, didn’t think we were going to be able to get anything done. But things are looking up.
After the meeting I flyered a bunch of dorms. Went to my old dorm, brought back memories.
Well, not really, but it was cool seeing it again. The hallway is so frigging narrow!
I’ll leave now, with the press release for Ali Abunimah. I encourage anyone around to come and see him, it will be great!
Is peace about to break out between Palestinians and Israelis?
You’ll have two chances to hear an informed perspective as both Cornell University and Ithaca College host renowned Palestinian American journalist Ali Abunimah.
Few observers are as closely in tune with recent developments in Israel and the Occupied Territories as Abunimah, who has written extensively on the conflict for many years. The cofounder of the website Electronic Intifada who has published in numerous U.S. and international publications and appeared on many TV and radio shows, Abunimah will speak at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, at Cornell’s Goldwyn Smith Hall HEC Auditorium, and at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, at IC’s Park Hall Auditorium in Park Hall. Call 781-771-0803 for further information.

I’m back in Ithaca, arrived at maybe two thirty. Ate at Taste of Thai. With my mother. Pretty good, I’ve had enough peanut sauce for awhile now though. It’s good, but I could definitely get tired of it, quickly.
Don’t know what to do with myself. Everything’s unpacked. Might read a bit and then call it a super-early night. It’s nice being back.
But since I’m back, expect more regular postings.

I hate it.
UPDATE:
Yesterday I tried to get to a party, but then – lolwtf – I somehow missed the bus. I still don’t know how I did it, but I hate relying on public transportation. I think if I had waited and took the 12 o’clock, I would of been showing up a bit too late. Also after missing the bus, I realized how hungry I was. So instead I stayed in, got a sub, smoked, and watched music videos till 3am. Eh, it was relaxing.
Today I went down to the commons, window shopped. Ate at this Middle Eastern stand in the Center Atrium. Decent falafel, and the guy was friendly.
Then I saw The Motorcycle Diaries at The Cinemapolis. It was pretty damn good. Beautiful scenes. Highly recommend it.
Now I’m back here. eh.
Slipknot — Everything Ends
You are wrong, fucked, and overrated
I think I’m gonna be sick and it’s your fault
This is the end of EVERYTHING
You are the end of EVERYTHING
I haven’t slept since I woke up
And found my whole life was a lie, motherfucker
This is the end of EVERYTHING
You are the end of EVERYTHING

Ithaca Freecycle Network
The concept of Freecycling is simple: you have something you no longer need (a couch, a crib, a CD, a computer) and you wish to “recycle” it rather than throw it in the landfill. Or you’re looking for a specific item (a couch, a crib, a CD, a computer), and you’d love getting it for free. The Ithaca Freecycle Network is the place you can post notices about items you’d like to give away and find things that you need. The only requirement is that the transfer of an item from one person to another has to be FREE.
This is a dream come true. Free stuff! I’ve been looking through it for about twenty minutes now. I already e-mailed one person about a microwave. (Already got a reply too – someone else has dibs, but if they don’t pick it up…)
A big thank you to Happily Stuck in Ithaca for bringing it to my attention. He also got put on to my list of links today, after I noticed he had linked to me. For some odd reason, I have this compulsion of linking to people only after they’ve linked to me. It’s me trying not to be needy or something over the internet. :pipe:
