So about two months ago I did a quick post saying I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but that I wouldn’t make it a centerpiece of this blog. Well, as this site is a clearinghouse of all things moi, it turns out that as I learn more and fully deal with the disease, I feel the need more and more to write about it. So I’ve created a “health” category.
It won’t be strictly diabetes-related, however. I’ll be going back through the archives and adding anything “health”-related. I’ll be liberal with the definition, as I am with most definitions and things in general.
I foresee more interesting links to news stories and articles, and occasionally a handwritten (OK, handtyped) post on the more misunderstood aspects of diabetes.
Nobody reads the blog anyway: who cares if it goes in 20 random directions instead of only 19?

I spent pretty much all day today working on the site. Upgrading to the latest version of WordPress, getting it working correctly, adding plugins, and a total redesign. Just like the old days.
And if that wasn’t enough, I’ve spent the last hour or so retroactively adding tags to my oldest posts. And now I’m forced to stop because my left wrist is KILLING me. Argh.
Anyways, hope the work is appreciated, and any comments are welcomed.
I’d also really like to exchange links with any interested parties. Preferably those with similar sites (content, traffic, the whole shebang). I noticed today that a lot of my old ‘link pals’ have moved on or died off. Their sites, not themselves.

I hate how I began this blog by capitalizing the first letter of each word in the title. I continue doing it for continuities sake, but it bothers me. Expect a site re-design sometime soon. This current one is a completely stock thing that I just slapped up because I like the ajax menu and comments. I might edit it, or I might start afresh. Who knows.
EDIT: Decided to begin work on a completely new wordpress theme from scratch (well, scratch or the old plane-jane theme that use to ship with WP) and enter it in the WP 2.0 competition. Create something nice and new for the site, contribute something to the WP community. And there’s always the slim chance of getting a prize. Prizes are good.
Flipping through the 2006 Bloggies, noticed one blog coming up again and again – PostSecret, where users anonymously send in postcards revealing something or another. It’s interesting.
I’m still in a rotten mood. Looks like next year won’t be too bad – I’ll need to take two politics courses, two or three writing courses, and two semesters of German. The rest will just be filler. Wonder if I could still snag that anthropology minor. Huh.

Today I woke up — it was still dark because I had the blinds drawn, and so I expected it to be really late. Turns out it was only ten thirty in the morning. After lounging for a bit longer, I heard rain, so I got up and pulled up the blinds. Fairly heavy downpour. I actually like rain, so it was a nice way to start off the day. However, the rain quickly stopped, the sun brightened, and it was very nice out. I wore shorts, simply because I could.
Today I spent a lot of time uploading the pictures from my digital camera to Flickr. Most of these pictures were from this summer — and most of them were from my trip to Chicago for Lollapalooza. Be sure to check them out, either by visiting my flickr page, or the photos page on this site.
I discovered one minor annoyance with the plug-in that I’m using to have a photo page on here — it sorts everything by the date that it was taken, and not the date it was uploaded. Which is annoying if you’re uploading a bunch of old photos. Regardless.
I checked the site statistics today also, and they are continuing to progress nicely. I spend absolutely no time or money advertising the site, yet traffic continues to rise. To date, the site has had 4141 unique visits in October. This is compared to September, when it had 3788. The total number of hits for October has been 13750, down substantially from an April high of 64867. I chalk most of this up to taking away the bulletin boards, which inflated the total amount of pages loaded.
I’m content for a personal blog. The only thing that irritates me, is that I’m only using a fraction of what I’m paying for, bandwidth wise. I’m thinking of changing hosts in January. Unless they release an even cheaper, lower-frills plan. It’s possible.

After months and months of trying, off and on, to get a photo gallery working (and integrated) on the site, it was finally done with a simply plug-and-play WordPress plug-in called FAlbum.
You can see it in action in my photos section. Put simply, the way it works is that it pulls photos from your Flickr account. The benefits of pulling photos off of Flickr (instead of storing them locally) are multifold. Your own server doesn’t get weighted down with tons of photos being uploaded (useful if you’re trying to minimize bandwidth consumption). You are able to have both a gallery on your site, and be able to participate in the other features that Flickr includes. And, for people like myself who occasionally have site problems (*cough* because you don’t know what you’re doing), it’s a way to safeguard your files from accidental deletion.
And so on. So give it a go and see how you like it!

Well, here she is. Several lazy days of coding. Alright, I’ll admit. It’s basically just a combination of Kubrick and Equix. The design of Kubrick, the colors of Equix, hammered into a nice seamless inbetween.
Yes, I went back to one-column. They just look a lot more neater, and a bit less common. The old “header, wide column, short column, footer” formula is getting tired. Some people step up to three or four columns, but that’s just.. overkill.
Expect a few tweaks, and be sure to point out any irregularities with the new design. I don’t have IE on the laptop, so I’m flying blind. Have tested with Safari and Firefox. Only two browsers anyone should be using anyway, but.. I digress.
