A pot this morning, a pot just now to go along with dinner. Both were weak, I need to fine-tune the amount of coffee to water. But there is nothing like the smell of freshly-ground coffee.
First, you needs to buy the whole beans. This is best, for flavor and aroma. The smell is released when the beans are ground in the privacy of your own home – an electric handheld grinder will work well here. Grind them thoroughly, to taste. A certain amount of experimentation is necessary. But this is assuredly the most rewarding part of the coffee-drinker’s ritual. The aroma of the beans will saturate the air of your kitchen, an experience equal to if not better than the actual drinking of the coffee. The pungent smell awakens the senses, drawing you out of your nighttime stupor. Reminisce of places you’ve never been, indulge in memories of coffeeshops in the farthest corners of the world. Breathe in and forget the coming workday. Relax for those first fifteen minutes of your day; you’ll be more calm and relaxed for the rest.

“The proper ratio of coffee to water is 7.25 grams per 5 ounces of water or about one heaping tablespoon per 5 ounces. Before you can determine how much coffee to use, you have to know how much water your brewer uses each cycle. Run a brew cycle without coffee in the filter, and measure the resulting hot water.” ~http://www.gimmecoffee.com
I do about 2 heaping tablespoons per 6 ounces. Maybe a lil more if I need it. But I like my coffee as strong as I can get it. Fresh, whole beans are also preferable… I won’t touch crystals unless… I don’t know. I haven’t been that desparate yet.
