Tonight I went to the first ‘Boundless Ethics’ meeting, and it was pretty rad. Boundless Ethics is the new animal / human rights group on campus. They’ve got some good stuff planned, including looking into getting organic eggs into the campus dining halls, campaigns against veal, etc. and so on. I went not knowing how it’d go, but I think I’ll try to stick around.
Animal rights is one area where you really can make a difference, through local community campaigns. It feels nice to actually have realistic objectives, as compared to Amnesty International (which I’m now on the executive board of), or Students for a Just Peace (which I’m still on the executive board of), or IC Change.
One thing that always pisses me off, are the damn ignorant people, who rail against vegetarians. Creating an “us against them” mentality is such bullshit, especially when it’s based upon dietary habits. I have never once ran into someone who tried to make me change my dietary habits. I have never once ran into someone who felt superior because they were a vegetarian. All of that is bullshit. If there was ever a group whose mantra is “live and let live”, it’s fucking vegetarians. I mean come on!
Why would people feel threatened? It’s a fad to quote Maddox and rail against vegetarians. It’s a fad for fucking tools.
I’m glad that you’ll eat three animals for every one that I don’t. Have fun getting a quadruple bipass when you’re thirty-fucking-years-old.
Anyways, the club is refreshing and reinvigorating.
Earlier in the day I filled out the paperwork for Amnesty International. Peyi will be our advisor, and she gave some good advice. I don’t know how well the group will do, but I’ll try to help out.
SJP was really weird, yesterday. None of the old members showed up, and there were only two other people who were part of the group even last spring. I don’t especially like what’s going on there. But we’ll see. Could turn out ok.
I miss last year’s group of people. But a third of them graduated. Half of those who remain seem to be into IC Change, which I’m sort of apathetic towards. And the rest of them are just in Senior cruise mode, and not active.
There was a little bit of talk of resurrecting Young Democratic Socialists, which I’d definitely be interested in participating in. But as it stands, I’m already on the exec board of two clubs, and fairly interested in another two.
lolwtf? How’d this happen?
Oh, and I got back to my room, to find the flyer for IC Change – which was taped to my door – on the ground with a bunch of footprints on it. Real fucking cool. I bet whoever did that feels like a big man now. Ignorant fucks!
