Gibson to film Jewish ‘Western’

Mel Gibson looks set to provoke further antipathy among the Jewish community with plans to make a film about the story behind the festival of Hanukkah.
The Jewish festival of Hanukkah celebrates the Maccabees’ victory against Greek king Antiochus IV, 165 years before Jesus was born.
“The Maccabees’ family stood up and made war,” said Gibson, speaking on a US chat show last week.
“They stuck by their guns and they came out winning. It’s like a Western.”
A western? He’s going to make it into a western? Great.

as a jew i feel appalled by this.
As a non-Jew I’m appalled by this. No, I mean – the anti-semitism in The Passion can be debated I suppose, but..
I’d rather have someone who was more intimate with the entire story do it.
And calling it a western? I don’t understand that tidbit, Mel.
Actually, if I had any religious tendencies at all, I would prefer that the stories weren’t reduced to 2 hour Hollywood suck-fests.
the anti-semitism in the passion cannot be debated, that stuff about the jews actually being involved in the death of jesus is bullshit nobody really believes that but Nazis we all know it was the romans if it even happened next thing they will be trying to blame the muslims
