I’ve Realized Why I’m So Trustworthy With Money

Because I simply don’t value it. (how un-American.)

I just finished sorting through a bit over a hundred and fifty dollars. (ok, so it’s not a huge sum. But when the bulk of it is in singles, it seems hefty.) This money belongs to two seperate student organizations. Some of it is going to help refugees in Sudan. Some of it is going into the two groups’ accounts. Some of it is going to retroactively fund the SOA trip I went on. So about ten bucks of it is actually mine. So many possibilities to skim a bit off the top. But what would be the point?

In other news, I’m as busy as ever. I went to my Israel class today, and the teacher told us that all of us would be re-drafting our term papers, and that it’d probably be necessary for us to individually meet with her to discuss revisions.

*gulp*

But then, as we walked out of class and set-up meeting times, she mentioned to me that mine was the “closest to finished” and that our meeting should go quick. Phew..

Sent in three rolls of film for development, from the protest. I really need to scan some more photos and add them to the site. But it’s such a pain in the ass, and I never have time.

German test on Wednesday. Personal essay due on Wednesday. Africa essay on Friday. Reading throughout the week. It’s looking like I’ll really need to get out this weekend.

Tricky — Hell is Round the Corner
I stand firm for a soil
I lick a rock off foil
So reduce me, seduce me,
Dress me up in Stüssy.
Hell is round the corner where I shelter.
Isms and schisms, we’re living on a skelter
If you believe I’ll deceive common sense says you are thief
Let me take you down the corridors of my life.

    … Who are you?

  • Well that’s super! *gives you a very patronizing pat on the head*

You sound like Jesus. And I find that heart warming. It’s not just un-American, it’s plain Christian of you. I hate material things too. Like cable access.

Think of what the world would be like without money though. We could trade with wheat! Yeah, or maybe we could just trade with whatever surplus we managed to create. So in order to trade Bob for his surplus of cotton with my surplus of corn, I have to go through Martha, who has a surplus of cow shit. Cow shit is what Bob really wants, but Martha wants aluminum foil, so I have to get aluminum foil with my surplus of corn first. I’ll go to Kermit.

You starting to get the picture?

Money represents corn, wheat, cotton, television sets, internet access, Radio Head CDs, Alec Baldwin… all these things that we love. It’s just that one day someone with an IQ above 65 got the idea of standardizing the currency so we didn’t have to trade with 60 different people just to get underwear.

But you don’t like CDs or Alec Baldwin, because you’ve rejected those trite, material things. You’ve rejected money.

When did I ever say I’ve rejected money and other material things?
